6 Weeks ~ 11 Months
A nurturing beginning where our youngest learners are given the time, space, and security to grow at their own pace. In Seeds, we honor the rhythms of infancy—responsive care, frequent naps, bottles and feeding, connection, and plenty of unhurried time to simply be a baby.
We believe babies learn through freedom of movement and meaningful relationships. You won't find walkers or sit-me-ups here. Instead, children have safe, open spaces to roll, reach, crawl, pull, and discover their growing bodies in their own time.
Daily access to our baby deck invites infants to experience fresh air, changing seasons, squirrels, birds, and the natural world from the very beginning. Each day is rooted in responsive care, close observation, and joyful discovery as our Seeds begin to build confidence, connection, and a lifelong relationship with nature.
Rootlets
~11 Months ~ 22 Months
Rootlets is a gentle bridge between infancy and toddlerhood—a space designed for children who are beginning to discover a new sense of steadiness, independence, and possibility while still needing the comfort and rhythms of infancy.
Here, children can practice new skills at their own pace: finding steadiness on their feet, exploring more independently, participating in meals, beginning to transition from bottles, and gradually settling into a toddler rhythm. At the same time, we continue to honor the needs of young children for naps, familiar routines, responsive caregiving, and quiet moments of connection.
Rootlets gives children room to stretch without rushing. There is space to climb, carry, push, investigate, and move with growing confidence, while still providing the predictability and security they need. It is a place for those beautiful in-between moments—when a child is no longer quite a baby, but not yet ready to be a toddler in every way.
Our goal is not to move children forward because they have reached a certain age, but to follow the child as they show us they are ready. Rootlets offers the time, space, and relationships to make that transition with confidence, curiosity, and joy.
Sprouts
20 Months ~ 3 Years
Where curious toddlers begin making sense of the world around them from their own perspective. Through gentle guidance, they begin to practice sharing space, taking turns, and using simple language to express their needs, feelings, and ideas.
With plenty of time outdoors, open-ended materials, and child-led experiences, our Sprouts build independence and confidence.
Our team supports children as they learn words, helping them grow in self-regulation, connection, and a sense of belonging while making the transition from parallel play to cooperative imagination.
Buds
2.75 Years ~ 4 Years
A place where imagination flourishes. This stage is filled with incredible milestones. As language and independence rapidly develop, children begin their potty training journey, gain confidence in routines, and navigate the big emotions that come with growing up.
Through imaginative play, gentle teacher guidance, and collaborative experiences, children learn to share ideas, solve problems together, and build the emotional regulation and advocacy skills needed to thrive in community.
With plenty of time outdoors, open-ended materials, imaginative play, and child-led exploration, our Buds spend their days creating, pretending, wondering, and discovering. These experiences lay the foundation for empathy, resilience, confidence, and the curiosity they’ll expand on as they Blossom.
Blossoms
4 Years ~ Kindergarten
A vibrant community where children’s ideas take center stage. In Blossoms, four- and five-year-olds are growing into confident communicators, capable learners, and increasingly independent members of their community. They investigate meaningful questions, engage in collaborative projects, and participate in rich conversations that deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Teachers serve as partners in learning, carefully observing children’s interests and extending their thinking through purposeful, hands-on investigations. Our environment invites children to wonder, create, problem-solve, take healthy risks, and make their ideas visible through many forms of expression.
For children preparing for kindergarten, readiness is about far more than academics. We intentionally support the skills children need to enter school with confidence—independence, communication, self-regulation, resilience, early literacy and mathematics, problem-solving, collaboration, and a genuine love of learning. We continue to incorporate Pennsylvania kindergarten standards into our experiences while allowing children’s interests and questions to shape how those standards come to life.
For children who are already kindergarteners, Blossoms becomes a unique continuation of that learning. Rather than simply repeating a traditional kindergarten experience, we adapt our curriculum to meet children at their developmental level, extending kindergarten standards through deeper investigations, projects, nature-based learning, and opportunities for greater independence and leadership. Children have the space to revisit foundational skills while also stretching their thinking beyond them.
Our approach allows each child to have a meaningful next step—whether they are preparing to enter kindergarten or continuing to grow as a kindergartener. Surrounded by nature, meaningful relationships, and a community that values their ideas, children develop the confidence to ask questions, the resilience to keep trying, and the curiosity to keep discovering.
At HFCDC, kindergarten readiness isn't about getting children to fit a school mold. It is about helping each child become a confident, capable learner who is ready for what comes next—and excited to discover it.
Studio
All Ages
The laboratory of learning. A space where creativity, curiosity, and discovery come to life. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the Studio extends each classroom by providing children with opportunities to explore materials, ideas, and creative expression.
Guided by our Studio teacher, it’s about the process. Children engage in weekly hands-on invitations using loose parts, natural elements, art mediums, and collaborative projects that deepen classroom learning.
The studio space is a place where children’s thinking is celebrated, their ideas are documented, and their creativity is honored—reminding us that there are a hundred ways for children to learn, communicate, and express themselves.
Kitchen
All Ages
The heart of our school isn’t just our classrooms—it’s also our kitchen. Each day, nutritious, home-style meals and snacks are thoughtfully prepared to nourish growing bodies and bring the warmth of home into our school.
Children are invited to participate in age-appropriate cooking experiences, helping prepare morning breakfasts, explore new foods, and build lifelong skills and confidence. Our family-style meals bring children of different ages together, creating opportunities to practice conversation, independence, and kindness.
Around our tables, children don’t just share food—they share stories, friendship, and the joy of being part of a caring community.
Seeds & Rootlets Outside
6 Weeks ~ 18 Months
The Seeds outside area is a safe space for our littles to explore new textures, sights and sounds.
Rootlets, Sprouts & Buds Outside
11 Months ~ 3 Years
Fully equipped with a slide hill, a giant sandbox, a chalk wall, hammock swings and a tricycle riding loop. This space is shady all day and seriously fun.
Buds & Blossoms Outside
3 Years ~ Kindergarten
This space is made for creative fun. A construction corner, garden boat, vegetable garden, tire tower, climbing wall, tire swing, climbing tree, and lots of shady room to run are just some of the things our Buds, Blossoms and Blooms love about this play space.
